Ask a spreadsheet instead of hunting through it
A workbook can hold the answer and still make it hard to find. The number may sit on another sheet, depend on a formula, use a saved percentage format, or only make sense beside its row label. Chat with Excel turns the workbook into a conversation while keeping the evidence visible: ask in ordinary language, get a direct answer, then check the cited cells in the preview.

- Summarize a workbook — identify the sheets, major tables, totals, and useful takeaways.
- Analyze the data — compare periods or categories, surface outliers, and flag missing or inconsistent values.
- Explain formulas — translate a formula into plain English and show which cells feed it.

How Chat with Excel works
- Open a workbook. ExcelTool reads it locally and shows the sheets in the browser preview.
- Review the AI context. You can see whether every non-empty cell fits or a very large workbook was sampled.
- Choose whether to share. Nothing is sent to the AI model until you tick the consent box and ask a question.
- Verify the answer. Workbook claims include sheet and cell references so you can inspect the source yourself.
Fast help, with limits stated plainly
GPT-5.6 Luna runs with reasoning disabled for a quick response and low per-question cost. AI can still misunderstand a label, miss a pattern, or calculate from incomplete context. Treat important financial, operational, or legal conclusions as a starting point and verify the cited cells. The assistant recommends changes; it does not silently modify your workbook.
Prefer to keep every cell on your device? Use the Excel Viewer, Excel Editor, or local analysis tools instead. Their normal workbook processing does not use this chat API.
