Overview

At ExcelTool.io, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use our website and tools.

Data Processing

Most ExcelTool features process files entirely in your browser. Those local tools use client-side JavaScript and do not send workbook content to us or an AI provider. For those tools:

  • We do not upload your files to any server
  • We do not store your data
  • We cannot access the contents of your files
  • Your sensitive information remains completely private

When you use our tools to view, convert, or manipulate Excel files, all processing is performed locally in your web browser and the files never leave your computer. The clearly labelled AI features described below are exceptions.

AI extraction on Image to Excel

The Image to Excel tool offers an optional AI extraction mode. When you choose it (the choice is shown before you upload), the image you provide is sent to our server on Vercel and forwarded through Vercel AI Gateway to an AI model, solely to read the table out of the image. Specifically:

  • What is transmitted: the image you selected (re-encoded and downscaled in your browser first), and nothing else.
  • Why: to produce the extracted table you asked for. It is not used for anything else by us.
  • Our server does not save the image or the extracted table, and ExcelTool's application logs and error telemetry do not include the image or extracted cell content. Standard request metadata such as time, IP address, status, model, token count, and latency may still be logged.
  • The image passes through the AI model provider's infrastructure to produce the result. We do not make claims about the provider's retention or training practices that we cannot verify; if the image is sensitive, use the tool's Private mode, which runs entirely in your browser.

Chat with Excel

The Chat with Excel tool opens and previews the original workbook locally, but its AI conversation is not local-only. The page displays a warning before file selection and requires you to tick a consent box before it sends workbook content. When you ask a question:

  • The original .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, or .xlsb file is not uploaded. ExcelTool builds a bounded plain-data snapshot in your browser.
  • The snapshot can contain cell values, formatted display text, formulas, sheet names, cell references, and the question and recent chat messages you submit. It is sent through Vercel AI Gateway to OpenAI GPT-5.6 Luna.
  • Ordinary workbooks include every non-empty cell. Large workbooks are capped and sampled across sheets; the page shows the included and total cell counts before you consent.
  • ExcelTool does not save the snapshot, question, or answer, and its application logs and error telemetry do not include workbook or chat content. Standard request metadata such as time, IP address, status, model, token count, and latency may still be logged by the infrastructure involved.
  • If you are not permitted to share the workbook with OpenAI, do not tick the consent box. Use the local Excel Viewer, Editor, or analysis tools instead.

Summary

Most tools process files locally. Image to Excel AI extraction sends the chosen image to an AI model, and Chat with Excel sends a bounded workbook-content snapshot only after explicit consent. Both warn you before content leaves your device, and ExcelTool does not store the submitted content. We collect minimal analytics data and do not sell your data or use tracking cookies.
