How to Find Duplicates in Excel Online

  1. Upload your file - drop in an .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb, or .csv file.
  2. Choose what counts as a duplicate - the whole row, or key columns like email or ID.
  3. Review the highlights - duplicate rows are flagged and counted; first occurrences and repeats are shaded differently.
  4. Download - export just the duplicates (with counts) or an annotated copy of the whole sheet.

Find vs. Remove Duplicates

Excel's built-in Remove Duplicatesdeletes repeats immediately, which is risky when you haven't checked what will go. This tool does the opposite: it finds and counts duplicates so you can review them first. When you are ready to delete, use our Remove Duplicates tool. For the manual route, select a column and use Home > Conditional Formatting > Duplicate Values, or add =COUNTIF($A$2:$A2,A2)>1 as a helper column. Those methods flag one field at a time; the controls above can match on several key columns and export the reviewed rows.

Features

  • Ignore case and extra spaces
  • Download only duplicates, or an annotated full sheet
  • Works on .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .xlsb, and .csv - 100% in your browser
