How to Convert Numbers to CSV
- Drop the .numbers file above. It is read in your browser - no Mac, no iCloud, no upload.
- Pick the table. Every table in every sheet is listed by name.
- Choose plain values or values as shown and check the preview.
- Download the CSV, or all tables at once as a ZIP of CSV files.
One Table per CSV
A Numbers sheet is a canvas that can hold several tables side by side; a CSV is a single grid. Rather than merge tables into one confusing file, each table is offered separately, named after its sheet and table - Budget - Expenses, Budget - Income - and the ZIP download gives you every one of them in a single step.
Plain Values or Values as Shown
Numbers formats values for display - currency symbols, thousands separators, percentages, parentheses for negatives. A CSV has no formatting, so each number has to be written one way. Plain values writes the number itself (1234.5, -12.5), which is what databases, accounting software and scripts expect. As shown writes the text you see in Numbers ($1,234.50, ($12.50)), which suits a CSV that people will read. Either way, dates and times are written as displayed, because a CSV has no date type.
Doing It in Numbers Itself
On a Mac with Numbers installed, File > Export To > CSV does the same job for the open document. This converter is for when you do not have a Mac at hand - a .numbers attachment opened on a Windows PC or a Chromebook - or when you want the tables as separate files with a choice over how numbers are written. To keep formulas and formatting, convert to a workbook with Numbers to Excel instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The .numbers file is read directly in your browser, so this works on Windows, ChromeOS, Linux and phones as well as on a Mac.
A CSV holds one table. Every table in the Numbers file is listed - named after its sheet and table - and you download the one you pick, or all of them as separate CSV files in a ZIP.
A CSV cannot hold formulas, so each formula cell is written as the value Numbers last calculated. If you need the formulas, use the Numbers to Excel converter, which rebuilds them as Excel formulas.
A CSV has no date type. Dates are written as they appear in Numbers (for example 1/15/2026) so any program can read them; the alternative is a bare day count that only a spreadsheet understands.
No. The Numbers file is unpacked and converted inside your browser, in a background thread. Nothing is sent to a server.
